Rare and finely painted portrait of George Washington, signed at right edge "Jie. Li‚nard", inscribed verso by the retailers "LeRosey/11 Rue de la Paix/Paris/Mess. Rihouet", likely 1st quarter of the 19th century, hand painted porcelain plaque, 5-3/8 x 4-1/4 in.; original French gilt brass frame, ribbon and garland decoration, 7-1/4 x 5-3/4 in.
Note: Jean Li‚nard is known to have painted for the SŠvres porcelain manufactory. Lerosey and Rihouet joined together in 1820 to create and retail porcelain pieces including portrait miniatures.
