late 19th/early 20th century, inscription to base interior, probably depicting the Shingon Buddhist monk Kukai Kobo Daishi seated on rectangular plinth, black painted earthenware, 9 x 6-3/4 x 4-1/2 in.

surface dirt, flaking and losses to paint, probably lacking elements at hands (prayer beads and vajra)
Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item.
