Note: James E.H. Macdonald worked as a graphic designer at Grip Ltd until 1903. He then traveled to London for a period, returning to Grip Ltd. in 1907. In 1920, MacDonald co-founded the Group of Seven, Canada's most important artists devoted to portraying its landscape in a boldly, expressionistic way. Many of the Group of Seven were graphic or commercial designers for a living. It is thought that this work is expressly commercial in its graphic style.
