(American, 1834-1903),
Little Arthur (Kennedy 9), state V/V, from Twelve Etchings from Nature, and after the reduction of the plate, signed lower left "Whistler", etching on cream wove paper, 2-5/16 x 1-7/8 in. (plate); unframed, richly inked impression, hinged in at right side, foxing, pencil inscriptions in bottom margin at edge,. Notes: An inscription on the mount states, "impression selected by artist for a member of the family". The earlier states are considered rare as they were only printed and circulated among family members. The large sheet size possibly makes this impression intended for someone close to Whistler.
