Rochester, New York, circa 1880, churn with salt glazed exterior, Albany slip glazed interior, finely articulated leaping deer in applied cobalt slip decoration on front of jar, painted "5" capacity mark and " J. BURGER JR. ROCHESTER. N.Y." stamp on shoulder of jar, applied strap handles, tooled lines at shoulder, flared rim, lid shelf in interior, 18-1/4 in.

glaze and clay body anomalies as made, areas of restoration and illumination under blacklight to head of deer with evident small hairline, potion of rim above handle, area of handle, large portion of side of jar, residue to interior and exterior, grime on rim, minor surface abrasions, clay anomalies to the lower back side of jar as made, some very small glaze flakes to various areas of surface of jar including around the deer's front feet
