Trees in a Winter Landscape, circa 1928-1930, signed lower right in Latin "Iw. F. Choultse", oil on canvas, 21 x 25-1/2 in.; original painted wood and composition frame, 30 x 34 in.

Note:

According to Vadym Goncharenko, of the Choults̩ Foundation, this painting was created after the artist emigrated to Paris, France in 1920. During the period of 1928 through 1930 the artist actively worked with many galleries in the United States. The formal name of this painting is not known at this time but it was confirmed as being exhibited at John Levy Galleries in New York.

We would like to thank Vadym Goncharenko for kindly confirming the authenticity of this painting which will be included in the second part of his catalogue raisonn̩. The lot is accompanied by the photo certificate.

crackle, retouch at repair, conservation by Colin Post, January 2012 (report verso) removed painting from board, lined, restretched on new stretcher, former conservation effort trimmed tacking edge; frame with losses

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North  Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
