The Crucifixion of St. Andrew, oil on canvas, 37-3/4 x 28-3/4 in.; unframed
Notes: The angel holding the laurel crown and the palm frond extended toward the figure of possibly St. Andrew, are symbols of martyrdom and victory, respectively. The strong figure in white pointing his finger away from the punishment at hand, likely represents the high priest in an appeal for the martyr to abandon his faith. He holds a blooming rod, symbolic of the high priest, Aaron's rod, housed in the Ark of the Covenant as qualification of his priesthood. There are generally three male figures portrayed, Christ, St. Peter (upside down), and Andrew (on "X" form typically).
