attributed to William and John Linnell, England, circa 1765, each with ribbon crest over flower entwined foliate branches centering distressed mirror plate, 59 x 29 in. - Note: The Mallett catalog indicates that "these mirrors are closely related to a drawing in the Victoria and Albert Museum for a pier glass for a side of a room by John Linnell. Based on the same design, there is a pier glass mirror at Uppark, West Sussex, as well as a white painted pier mirror supplied to Brownlow, Ninth Earl of Exeter for Burghley House, Lincolnshire, for whom Linnell had worked."There is an old label verso reading "pair of old mirrors formerly the property of the Bowes family who occupied as a town? the house in old ? in fine restored condition, with scattered breaks and repairs to carved ornament including later brace at back of top, mirror plates replaced (backboards possibly original), surface wear to gilding (possibly regilt?)
