Johnston (Macon, Georgia, working 1845-1870), urn form, scroll handle, scroll and foliate decoration, engraved and hand chased image of cotton gin on front and inscribed "Awarded by the S.C.A.S./at their 6th Anl Fair, Oct. 1851/E. T. Taylor & Co./For the Best Cotton Gin/For Fine Cotton", 6.77 oz. T., 6-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 3-1/2 in.. Notes: The South Central Agricultural Society (S. C. A. S.), at their annual fair at Macon, Georgia, in 1851 awarded a Silver Pitcher the E. T. Taylor & Co., “For The Best Cotton Gin For Fine Cotton”. E. T. Taylor & Co. were manufacturers of premium gins. The company moved, in 1849 from Gerard, Alabama to Columbus, Georgia.
See pages 42 – 44 of [The Southern Cultivator, a Monthly Journal Devoted to the Interests of Southern Agriculture], published by William S. Jones of Augusta, Georgia. Volume 10, 1852, contains the “official list of premiums awarded for this fair on this date”. This pitcher and the winner, E. Taylor & Co. are among those listed.

Condition
In house shipping. Brunk Auctions provides in-house shipping via UPS Ground (signature required) for many items. Brunk Auctions will provide a shipping quote which includes shipping, materials, labor and insurance. Insurance is based on the selling price and premium.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid. The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.
Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
