mid 18th century, cedar throughout with rich dark color, horseshoe form back over pierced and fluted baluster form splats, turned supports, scalloped skirts, the front leg with cabochon carved knee and trifid foot, mustard yellow upholstered slip seat, slip seat with illegible inscription, 33-3/4 x 28-3/4 x 26 in.

Note: This corner chair ranks among the finest known Bermuda chairs of the period. Examples with related elements are illustrated in Bryden Hyde Bermuda's Antique Furniture and Silver. A side chair with closely related front legs is illustrated catalog number 115, and chairs 116 and 117 have related divided splats. High chests with related knee and foot treatment are illustrated as numbers 368 and 369. And Hyde notes that they are among the "finest cedar high boys produced in Bermuda".

fine integrity and condition overall, rich mellow patinated surface, small patch at front toe, rear foot with break and repair with patch and small area of loss, braces at back of splats possibly later, possible small repair at one arm attachment, expected shrinkage cracks, bumps and surface wear, slip seat likely an old replacement (probably once fitted with a chamber pot frame, no evidence of reshaping skirts)
