Literature: Published in Andrew Brunk, "Benjamin Randolph Revisited," American Furniture (2007), p. 12, figs. 12-14.

This chair may be the mate to an armchair previously owned by Louis Guerineau Myers and Frances P. Garvan and which is now in the Mabel Brady Garvan Collection at Yale University, illustrated in Patricia E. Kane, 300 Years of Seating Furniture, Chairs and Beds from the Mabel Brady Garvan and Other Collections at Yale University (1976), pp. 106-108, cat. no. 90. The carving and construction details are in keeping with a Randolph labelled side chair in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, suggesting the attribution to Randolph. Another closely related side chair is in the collection of the Toledo Museum, acc. no. 1989.111
