Note: Michael Harris Whitlock enlisted on April 5, 1863 as a Sergeant in the United States Army at age 29. By that summer he mustered into Company "D" of the Tennessee 8th Volunteer Cavalry Regiment, only to later transfer into Company "F."
Greene County was a largely Unionist pocket in Eastern Tennessee. To this day a statue stands in front of the Greeneville Courthouse, erected to honor the memory of Union soldiers from the surrounding area.
This object being offered descended through the family and is accompanied by a copious amount of Whitlock genealogy for the historian or hobbyist interested in pursuing research on the subject.
