Note: Howard Thomas began his career as an artist by studying at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1919. He went on to teach at a number of schools including what would become the University of North Carolina (Greensboro) and the University of Georgia where he remained until his retirement in 1965. He worked in a variety of media including, in his later years, the use of natural earth pigments.
