(French, 1862-1939)Ciel de Gerberoy, circa 1913, signed lower right "Le Sidaner" and inscribed verso, oil on panel, 7 x 9-3/8 in.; gilt wood and composition frame, 16-1/2 x 18-1/4 in.Note:"The evocation of silence, absence and anticipation.." A student of Impressionism of Monet and the positivism of poet Paul-Marie Verlaine, Henri Le Sidaner has evoked a calmly meditative yet jubilant view in his composition, Ciel de Gerberoy. His paintings often appear with only the evidence of man's interaction with his environment but not represented literally. The lot comes with facsimiles of documents from Galleries Maurice Sternberg including the verso of a photo certificate (now lost) identifying the work as authentic and signed by the artist's son, Louis de Sidaner.Provenance: Galleries Maurice Sternberg, Chicago, Illinois, purchased 1987 (accompanied by copy of original receipt); Private Collection, Jacksonville, Florida
