Japanese, one-piece form of built-in furniture for storage space and access to an upper story or loft, eight steps with five doors, two small drawers, probably cedar with red lacquer finish with other secondary woods, including small [Zelkova] (elm-like) inset panels and natural hardwood handrail, 81-1/2 x 70-1/2 x 28-1/4 in.,. Condition: cracks, small holes, wear, rubbing and dings. Notes: This form is similar to the [kaidan-dansu] or step chest except it is built in rather than free-standing in multiple sections.
