Chinese, 18th century, matching guglet and basin decorated in underglaze blue scenes of figures in a mountainous lakeside with buildings and pagoda, label reads "Christies, Lot 2242.0 The Nanking Cargo", guglet, 10-3/8 x 6 in., chips and restoration to rim, discoloration of surface, accretions on surface; basin, 3-1/2 x 10-1/4 in., wear to rim edge, cracks, surface accretions, discoloration, restoration

Notes: In 1752, the Dutch ship, Geldermalsen, sank in the South China Sea, having been laden with Chinese export porcelain.  This shipwrecked hoard was discovered in the early 1980s, and was famously auctioned by Christie's in Amsterdam, as The Nanking Cargo.
