The Marriage of the Virgin, architectural sketch and partial inscription verso "[Bar]tolomeo Carmelit. Scalzo/iln de L'..la Vostra/Zoffina, ouvero quello/prossiono venturo/Apostolico], brown ink and ink wash, 3-5/8 x 6-3/16 in.; gilt wood frame
Notes: A note verso states, "Although Panini is not known to have painted the subject, he did use two of the secondary figures  the woman holding a baby and in his Capriccio with the Arch of Constantine painted in 1749. Panini's method of surrounding his main subject with the elaborate architectural background is seen to affect in this drawing. This compositional device is used in the number of his religious paintings of the 1720s."
