American, 19th century, probably cast zinc, marked "M. J. Frand Co./Manufacturers/Camden, N.J." at base, eagle atop rock with outstretched wings and ring in beak, approx. 18-1/2 x 32-3/4 x 16-1/2 in.
Provenance: Private Collection, Blacksburg, Virginia
Note: Per the label at the underside of the base, this ornamental figure was removed from the courthouse in Bergen, New Jersey in 1933 when "new court house built under FDR [sic]", however this note could be referring to renovations done as part of the Works Progress Administration in the 1930s, or the addition of the administration building which was completed in 1933, as the current courthouse was completed in 1912 and is decorated with five bronze eagles.
