(New York/Rhode Island, 1875-1942)
Bust of the Artist's Husband, Harry Payne Whitney, 1906, signed "Gertrude V. Whitney 1906", "1" and stamped "C. Valsuani Cire Perdue", patinated bronze on red marble plinth, 10-1/4 in. (without plinth),. Condition: a line in the hair behind the proper left ear appears like an abrasion but was likely there when cast as patination seems to also appear within this line. Her fluency in sculpture began in earnest after her marriage to Harry Payne Whitney in 1896.
