Macon, mid 19th century, round with stepped base, dome lid with urn finial, lid and base engraved "Mary S. Clark. from her Father", one base cartouche without monogram, marks for E. J. Johnston (Macon, Georgia, working 1845-1870), 6 x 6 in.
Note: Probably Mary Stedman Clark from Augusta, Georgia, born June 4, 1840. She was the daughter of Joseph Stedman Clark. Joseph Stedman Clark was the younger brother of Horace, partner in F. & H. Clark Co. a retail jewelry firm in Augusta, Georgia.
