A herd of Bison on the plains, 1906, signed and dated lower right "G. F. Rotig/06.", oil on canvas, 11-1/2 x 17-3/4 in.; original veneered ogee molding frame, 19-5/8 x 26 x 1/1/2 in.

Provenance: Presumed Dr. Henry Mitchell McCracken, University Heights, New York City, New York, circa 1907; Private Virginia Collection

Note: This lot is accompanied by a framed letter to Dr. Henry Mitchell McCracken, from the artist in French, dated "1907" discussing his study of animals and Bison talking about his Salon 1906 entries. A note on M. Knoedler letterhead also dated 1907 is also included with a cabinet card of the artist..

Rotig exhibited two paintings at the Paris Salon 190 Salon des Artistes français, Paris, 1906, where two paintings of Bison were shown, no.1449, (illustrated) and no. 1450, Elans passant un riviere au crepuscule.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
