Dublin, 1824, rim with heads of Flora at intervals, chased and embossed with heads representing the Four Seasons between scrolls, flowers, grapevine, and panthers, leafy paw feet, center engraved coat of arms and motto, marks for William Nowlan, .925 fine, retailed by Law Gadroon, 134.62 oz. Lieutenant General Sir John Colquhoun Grant KCB GCH (1764 - 1835). He also received the orders of St. Vladimir in Russia and William the Lion in the Netherlands. He entered the army as an ensign in 1793 in the 36th Foot. He was present at the capture of Seringapatam and the capture of the Cape of Good Hope in 1806. With the 15th Hussars under his command he led them with distinction at Sahagun and in other affairs during the retreat from Corunna.
He was Aide de Camp to the Prince Regent 1811-1814.
Whilst in command of the Hussar Brigade he was given the nickname "The Black Giant" with his towering frame and swarthy looks. At Waterloo, Grant commanded the 5th Cavalry Brigade, consisting of the 7th and 15th Hussars with the 13th Light Dragoons attached, on one day having five horses shot out from beneath him. During the 1820's he served as a general officer on the Irish Staff. In 1830 he was appointed Lieutenant-General.

Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
