British, 1760-1780, canopy bedstead with leaf, bellflower, and drapery carved reeded footposts set with fan inlay, oak rails and head posts, carved scrolled mahogany canopy frame, with later walnut headboard, 92 x 89 x 68 in. - Provenance: Private Collection, Highlands, North Carolina scattered repairs and probable modifications, footpost appears to have large plugged mortise (miscut rail mortise?), canopy frame appears to be period with some repairs at joints and corners (later or enhanced carving?), some breaks and repairs to tops of scrolls, one piece of canopy scroll separated at old repair (present but not affixed), some patches/modifications to rails, headboard a modern replacement
