British, mid 18th century, well carved mahogany stand with flame finial, spiral turned support, tripod base with well formed ball and claw feet, the adjustable needlework panel with mahogany surround, leaf and floral needlework, back panel with Japanesque bird and butterfly decorated paper, 57 in., panel 23-1/2 x 20-1/2 in. - Provenance: Northeast Auctions, November 12, 2000, Lot 690; possibly lent to the Milwaukee Art Museum in late 2000 or early 2001; Property from the Collection of Dudley and Constance Godfrey

Condition

crack and repair to standard at one leg attachment, other cracks near pole insert, probably original iron spider, needlework with scattered moth damage and one small puncture, paper back panel with extensive punctures and distress
