probably American, early to mid 1800s, approximately .32-.36 cal., 37-1/2 in. swamped octagonal barrel with top flat marked "18 G.M.H. 40", nicely figured stock, brass butt plate, trigger guard, patchbox, ramrod guides and stock tip, lockplate marked "…/ & Co.", silver-inlaid crescent moon on cheek piece, small silver inlay on top of grip, hammer holds at full cock, barrel with dark age patina, wood surfaces with rich patina, later washer on hammer retaining screw, stock in very good condition, patchbox does not stay closed
