(Possibly 17th century) Portrait of a Lady, possibly Marie Mancini, wearing drop pearl earrings, a pearl necklace, a loose gown and holding a dove, unsigned, oil on canvas, 31 x 29 in.; 19th century gilt wood and composition frame,. Condition: lined with paste and linen, crackle, craquelure, areas of overcleaning with hair mostly affected , retouch with most in background, stretcher marks; frame with losses and abrasions. Notes: The niece of Cardinal Mazarin, she was a noblewoman of Italian birth and the early love interest of Louis XIV. The two were forbidden to marry by the Cardinal and Louis's mother.
