Three ships of the Spanish-American War: U.S. Cruiser [Columbia], U.S. Torpedo Boat [Cushing], and U.S. Ram [Katahdin], each inscribed at bottom center, all with original labels verso inscribed "Pansing" and each numbered, oil on canvas, 7 x 7 in.; matching gilt wood and composition frames,. Condition: original stretchers and tacking edges, light grime, some crackle; frames with some losses and resurfacing. Notes: These three paintings, a series of ships used during the Spanish-American War of 1898, constitute a rare and unusual grouping by artist, Fred Pansing. It is thought that they were possibly used as illustrations in a publication in New York circa 1906.. Provenance: Private Collection
