142 ornithological plates, with 54 in color, from Histoire naturelle des oiseaux d'Afrique, Tome 1, 2, 3 (see detailed note), J.J. Fuchs, publisher, Paris, 1798-1808, engravings on wove paper, sheets approximately 20-3/4 x 13-1/4 in.
Note: Levaillant produced the most comprehensive series of works on exotic birds prior to Gould. The Histoire naturelle des oiseaux d'Afrique was released in 51 parts and is comprised of a total of six volumes.
In this lot, Tome 1 is presumably or mostly intact with binding (43 in color and 47 uncolored). Plates from Tome 2 (4 color and 23 uncolored) and 3 (7 color and 18 uncolored) are extracted with remnants of text and a frontispiece. The plates include birds of prey, owls, vultures and others.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid. The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.
Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
