Chinese or Korean, 19th century, ink and pigment on silk, depicting robed buddha seated on a lotus base surrounded by numerous followers and deities, including Ox-Head and Horse-Face in upper section, rectangular cartouche bottom center with Chinese script, 36-1/4 x 44 in.; gilt wood frame, 46 x 53-3/4 in.
Condition
warping and creasing throughout, scattered areas of fading and paint loss, especially at lower left (probable water damage), one figure at right with restoration at sleeve, scattered staining, not examined out of frame, frame with light wear and abrasions, some gilt loss
Collection from a West Point Graduate who lived in Korea in 1962 and 1974
