Design Lambeth, England (established 1815), footed elongated ovoid form with neck and flaring rim, tapestry ground with light blue, white and gilded accents, applied acanthus and stylized flowers around bottom and neck, all with impressed marks "ROYAL DOULTON/ENGLAND" and "DOULTON/SLATER'S/PATENT", "4461" and "BW", incised artist's initials include "HL", "LW" and "CP" (or possibly "LP"), heights vary from 11-5/8 to 11-3/4 in., the vases differ slightly with applications of gilt lines on foot, neck/shoulder and top rim,. Notes: John Slater (1844 - 1914) was the Art Director at Doulton & Co. Burslem from 1887 until his death in 1914. The ware marked "DOULTON & SLATERS PATENT" was made by use of a decorative technique in which fabrics were impressed into the clay surface.. Provenance: Private Asheville, North Carolina Collection
