American, 19th century, comprising one for 58 caliber cartridges, partially embossed at outer flap "US/E.Gaylord/Maker/Chicopee Mass.", inspection mark, opening to original tin with interior covered pocket, with original sling, 5-1/2 x 7-1/2 x 2-1/2 in.; second probably for 69 caliber cartridges, with a shield form flap, opening to an interior flap over the box and covered pocket, 6 x 8 x 2 in.; third a for fuses, embossed "USN" at outer flap, opening to open interior with possibly original wood block with drilled holes, 2 x 5-1/4 x 2 in.; together with one for carbine cartridges, shield form flap opening to interior flap, embossed "Hoovers, Calhoun & Co./makers/New York", over open interior with covered pocket, 3-1/2 x 8-1/4 x 2 in.

Condition

first with crazing at protectorate, wear and crazing at leather, small tears at sling, surface residue, oxidation at metal, break at leather latch (elements missing), interior leather hardened, otherwise good condition; second with all straps intact, crazing at protectorate and leather, oxidation and dents at metal plate, missing tin components, break at interior pocket flap (present); third with some crazing at protectorate, leather, oxidation at metal, missing waterproofing element at lid; fourth with crazing at protectorate, leather, breaks at both belt loops, closure (with missing elements), both sides, tears at base
