(British, 1769-1830)
Possibly an adaptation in reverse of Lady Emily Cowper, elder daughter of the 5th Earl Cowper, unsigned, 19th century, oil on canvas, 16 x 13-3/8 in.; 18th century or style carved and gilt wood Rococo frame in the Huguenot manner, 24-3/4 x 21-3/4 x 3-1/2 in.
Provenance: Presumed Cottier & Company, New York (old label verso); Estate of Diane Parker, Thomasville, Georgia
Note: Kenneth Garlick stated that the portrait was made into an engraving The Rosebud, and became very popular. He also stated that "a small number of copies based on it, claiming to be from the hand of Lawrence have from time to time appeared on the market." It is my opinion that this may be one of those copies noted by Garlick.
