Cincinnati, Ohio, 1884-1888, molded children's dishes with gadrooned sides in reddish-brown (ginger) clay decorated with illustrations by Edward Pope Cranch (1809-1892) based on Uncle Remus's plantation tales compiled by Joel Chandler Harris, first published in 1881; subjects include "Miss Molly Cottontail page 131" (1884), [good condition with some scratches in glaze]; "Brer Buzzard" (1884) [good condition, some scratches in glaze]; "Br Bar, Miss Brune and Miss Brindle" (1885), [body chip in rim, gilding worn, remnants of overglaze black substance at rim]; "Br Rabbit rides the family horse" (1887) [small body chip, two glaze chips, gilding rubbed, some glaze scratches]; and "Loy Br. Fox you dunno wat trouble is" (1888), [good condition]; all 6-1/2 in. diameter, all with incised titles and artist's script monogram "E.P.C", all marked with impressed straight line "ROOKWOOD" and dates or RP cypher and one or two flames, impressed "87" (shape #) and "G" (for ginger clay). Notes: Edward P. Cranch was, in the 1880s, a retired lawyer and friend of Maria Longworth Nichols and worked as manager and sometime decorator at the early Rookwood Pottery until 1890. Joel Chandler Harris (1848–1908) was an American journalist, fiction writer, and folklorist best known for his collection of Uncle Remus stories. Harris was born in Eatonton, Georgia, where he served as an apprentice on a plantation during his teenage years. He spent the majority of his adult life in Atlanta working as an associate editor at the Atlanta Constitution.. In house shipping.  Brunk Auctions provides in-house shipping via UPS Ground (signature required) for many items. Brunk Auctions will provide a shipping quote which includes shipping, materials, labor and insurance.  Insurance is based on the selling price and premium.

In order to provide an accurate shipping quote please provide the following:

  • Shipping method: if you have a UPS or Fed Ex account # we can bill your account 3rd Party and you can arrange payment for materials, labor and insurance.  If you have your own insurance please send a signed waiver of liability.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid.  The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.

Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North  Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
