South Carolina, 1755-1775, with single board pie crust mahogany top tilting over baluster turned support, tripod base with leaf carved knees and ball and claw feet, 28-1/4 x 25 x 25-5/8 in.

Note: For closely related Charleston tables including examples with baluster turned standards and leaf carved knees, see Rauschenberg and Bivins, The Furniture of Charleston, 1680-1820, fig. CT-80 and CT-83.

Condition

stand in excellent condition with original iron spider, no leg or foot repairs found, cracks to block support with one small patch, battens reset and with later screws (later color to battens), minor scratches and wear at foot tops, break and repair at pie crust molding and one patch. The top appears to be original, but has been reset and the battens have been trimmed at their ends. There is 3/4 inch of shrinkage to the top- this accounts for the trimmed batten ends, but the connection of the battens leaves some question about the originality of the top. (see detailed photos online).
