probably Boston, circa 1800-1820, large impressively conceived sconce with bold spread wing eagle over deeply carved shell above scrolling leafage and two candle arms, candle arms with "beehive" sockets, all above a leafy anthemion motif, Eastern white pine (by microanalysis) with gesso and gilding, 34-1/2 x 15-1/2 in.
in fine condition, original gilding with some surface wear, minor retouch, and areas of possible regilding, minor shrinkage crack at central shell, typical minor cracking at candle arms, some other possible repairs (later color at back)
