signed "Wassmus" for Wassmus Freres Paris, third quarter 19th century, probably after a model by Jean Francois Dubut, rosewood, mahogany and other veneers, finely gilt bronze mounts, parquetry and marquetry inlays, double violin form with single drawer over false, upper section with fall front with fitted interior with burlwood veneers and six finely dovetailed drawers with mahogany linings and ormolu pulls, velvet-lined writing surface, 46-1/2 x 22 x 12 in., opens to 22 in., excellent condition overall, fallboard with cracks and separations at laminations with associated veneer distress, lower door also with some cracks, other scattered veneer chips and flaws, top with very minor surface stains, mounts with some surface dirt and minor corrosion, some areas of finish distress especially to case sides.
