Carved Hardwood Eight-Panel Room Screen
19th century, each vertical panel set with six relief-decorated and enameled porcelain plaques variously depicting landscapes with figures, Buddhas, flowers and precious objects, set in dense figured hardwood (possibly Huanghuali) frame, 71-1/2 x 104 in.
Condition
porcelain panels in good condition with the following exceptions: Panel 2 (large central plaque) with break and repair across lower section; Panel 3 (small bottom plaque) with break through center; Panel 4 (small panel second from bottom) with vertical break through panel with associated chip, other very minor surface dirt and some glaze inclusions (please note panels were not removed for examination), scattered losses, warping and cracks to back panels, one with some fading and finish losses, restorations and some replacements to pierce-carved porcelain surrounds
