Massachusetts, circa 1770, highly figured mahogany slant lid opening to a well fitted interior, with three fan carved drawers and ten additional drawers, case set with four serpentine long drawers, with large bat wing brasses, set on very boldly carved ball and claw feet, skirt with central fan carved drop, 45-1/2 x 45 x 25-1/2 in. - Note: General Michael Farley, an Ipswich native, played a key role in the American Revolution. The desk is accompanied by Revolutionary War documents and other Farley papers. - Provenance: originally belonged to Brigadier General Michael Farley, who later became a judge in Essex, Massachusetts; Wayne Pratt, American Antiques, purchased January 1991 for $38,000 (accompanied by copy of original receipt); Private Virginia Collection

good condition overall, appears to retain most original brasses (one long drawer with reset or replaced pulls), replaced hinges at fallboard with associated patches, two interior drawer bottoms probably replaced, feet in good condition with most original blocking with some later screws, some checking to fallboard, other typical cracks, wear, and minor repairs
