Window "Allegory of Spring"
probably New York, circa 1890s, plated stained glass, the central panel depicting a maiden with upraised arms, flanked by classical columns and surrounded by dogwood blossoms with flowers, calla lilies and water at her feet, finely variegated purple-to-blue background, framed by an arched upper panel centering a ribbon and bellflower cartouche, rectangular base panel, all set within original frame, 116-1/4 x 45 in.. Condition: panels in overall excellent condition, scattered very minor cracks as typical, wooden surround with several paint layers with expected losses, minor losses at edges of upper metal frame, some reputtying at wooden panels where they connect to the glass (please see detailed photos). Notes: A window with a closely related figure of [Hospitalitas], designed by John La Farge for the Brooklyn house of Herbert L. Pratt in 1906/1907, is now in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, 15.493.. Provenance: Private Collection
