Coastal Massachusetts, late 18th century, shell-carved serpentine crest over pierced splat, over-the-rail upholstered seat on cabriole legs with ball-and-claw feet and block-and-turned stretchers, rear seat rail indistinctly stamped "E. Johonnot(?)", in old surface, 37-1/2 x 23 x 22 in., minor cracks to splat with area of color retouch, scattered wear and abrasions especially at front feet, interior of rear rail set with later brace, modern upholstery in good condition (not examined under upholstery.
