American, circa 1815, gilt wood frame with inset mirror plate, reverse painted top panel depicting naval battle titled "Hornet & Penguin", label verso "Mrs. Hamilton C. Horton, Jr. .. Winston-Salem, N.C. ", 27-1/4 x 13-1/4 in.; together with a 19th century courting mirror with boxed pine wood frame, inset with distressed silvered mirror plate, shaped frame, and reverse painted crest and border with floral designs, 17-1/2 x 12-3/4 in.Note: Hamilton Cowles Horton Jr. (1931-2006) was an attorney from Winston Salem, N.C. He was a Republican member of the North Carolina General Assembly, and served in the House of Representatives from 1969 to 1970.
