New England or possibly Caribbean, circa 1820, with exuberantly carved backsplash over a superstructure set with two dovetailed drawers, the case with two long drawers flanked by a cellarette drawer with bottle dividers and a cabinet door, mellow brown color, shield inlaid escutcheons, ebonized drawer pulls, 54-1/2 x 82 x 32 in.

Note: The Christie's cataloging from 2001 indicates that the secondary wood is juglans cinerea - butternut, also called white walnut, and Pinus of the white pine group, by microanalysis.

Condition

good overall, minor crack and repair at front leg, some distress at superstructure attachment, typical veneer flaws and repairs, especially at banding, some minor wax drip at top, some minor veneer and molding chips and losses at case sides
