Paris: Desaint and Saillant and Chez Durand, 1755-1759, four volumes in full vellum with brown lettered spines, with 275 engraved plates after Jean-Baptiste Oudry and with engraved frontispiece portrait of Oudry (complete), numerous woodcut title vignettes and head and tail pieces, Ray [The Art of the French Illustrated Book], 5: "one of the most ambitious and successful of all illustrated books," the plate facing page 110 is in its second state with the words "Le Leopard" on the banner, 16-1/4 x 11-1/4 in.. Condition: some water staining mostly in Volumes II and IV, affecting some plates, some corners slightly bumped and occasional wear at the extremities, otherwise very good condition. Notes: The Torre e Tasso family title descended from the Czech branch of the princely house of Thurn and Taxis, a German dynastic family known for their activity in the postal services in 16th century Europe. Prince Alexandro of Thurn and Taxis (1181-1937) relocated to Italy in 1923 and was given the titles "1st Duke of Castel Dunino" and "Prince della Torre e Tasso" by Victor Emmanuel III of Italy. In 1906, he married Princess Marie de Linge (Château de Beloeil, Belgium) and they had three children together before divorcing in 1919. Their children took the title of "Prince(ss) della Torre a Tasso". Castel Dunino remains part of the Torre e Tasso family’s estate.. Provenance: Descended in Family of Prince Louis de Ligne (1854-1918), Princess Marie de Ligne (1885-1980, Belgium) and Louis della Torre e Tasso (1907-1985) (former Czechoslovakia, Italy)

In house shipping. Brunk Auctions provides in-house shipping via UPS Ground (signature required) for many items. Brunk Auctions will provide a shipping quote which includes shipping, materials, labor and insurance. Insurance is based on the selling price and premium.

Shipping arrangements are made only after the invoice is paid. The payment for shipping is a separate charge from payment of your lots.
Sales Tax: If you live in North Carolina and/or pick up from the auction house, and do not have a valid resale tax number on file with us, you MUST pay North Carolina state sales tax. The NC Sales Tax will not apply to any items being shipped out of state (unless the client resides in North Carolina) or to those clients with a resale tax number.
