British or French, 19th century, black marble top over figured mahogany frame set with gilt bronze mounts in the Empire style, frieze drawer additionally set with two Wedgewood style porcelain plaques, oak and other mixed secondary woods, top with label "le garde meuble public...", 36-1/2 x 51-1/2 x 17 in.
generally good condition, drawer bottom replaced, extensive pest damage at back rear rail with associated losses, formerly fitted with mirrored back (now lacking), probably original top with minor surface distress, lower central rosette replaced and some distress to mounts that flank it
