(Charleston, South Carolina, 1862-1929)Two landscapes, one signed verso "Emma Gilchrist", the other unsigned, oil on board, each 8 x 10 in.; carved and gilded Florentine frames 11 x 13 in.Note: Glichrist was a lifelong resident of Charleston, South Carolina, and is known for her Impressionistic landscapes executed on a small scale. In 1912 she helped to create the sketch club of the Carolina Art Association. The board of this organization provided financial support for studio space at the Gibbes Art Gallery. The mission of the sketch club was to create an arena where professional and amateur artists would work together. They funded visiting artists and teachers and eventually provided an arena for the sale of their members' work., Provenance: Estate of Aubrey Hancock, Charleston, South Carolina
