Carved Mahogany Dining Chairs
British, circa 1785, each with shield-form back finely carved with Prince of Wales feathers and stylized leaves, over-upholstered seats with curved fronts, leather and brass-tack upholstery, tapered legs and spade feet, mellow brown color overall, 37-1/2 in., generally good condition with excellent color and patina, one chair with one replaced rear stile and minor break and repair at top of other stile, a second chair with one break and repair at lower part of back and minor breaks and screw repairs at top of stiles at joint with crest, two with rectangular patches at sides of shield (probably formerly fitted with arms), armchair with cracks and repairs at joints of arms to back and repair to one front leg and pieced toe (approximately 1 in.), armchairs with badly worn and torn leather upholstery, the others in modern leather in good condition, seat frames with some later bracing, other scattered minor repairs and flaws consistent with age and use.
