1852 dated document appointing Zebulon Vance as attorney for John Evans Brown; assignment of attorney from Pasquotank County, dated 1765; 1828 land deed hand written, signed and sealed James Trimble, Governor of Pennsylvania, John Brown appointed attorney; letter dated 1787 to Capt. Nath. Lawrence of Rocky Hill; hand written copy of speech from Chapel Hill, dated May 25, 1843 by Lt. Stanfield, "...a government must be either a monarchy or democratick. Aristocracy unsupported by royalty, can only result in calamity.", "Debate in Dialectic Hall, May 30, 1843, R.H. Cowan, E.D. Covington vs. W. Leak Steele and L Addison Stanfield"; Granville County court summons, dated April 21, 1887; letter outlining a land claim in the Carolinas, undated; Jackson County land indenture, dated 1877 - Note: The Dialectic Society - University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, was the first of two literary societies formed in 1795, the year the University of North Carolina opened. Throughout the nineteenth century, nearly all students were members of one of these societies. Students from the eastern portion of the state tended to belong to the Philanthropic Society and those from the western portion to the Dialectic Society.
