(New Jersey, 1853-1929) The Residence of Thomas Fairfax, an illustration for The Civil War Diary of Anne S. Frobel: Of Wilton Hill in Virginia, signed lower left "E. J. Meeker", ink and body color on paper laid on card, 11 x 13-3/8 in.; wood frame, toning, loss to upper left corner, not removed from frame, toning upper right corner; wood frame. Notes: Thomas Fairfax, (1762–1846) and the 9th Lord Fairfax of Cameron,was a relative of Thomas Fairfax, 6th Lord Fairfax of Cameron and who owned an extensive tract of land in Virginia during the colonial period.This residence was known as Vaucluse Plantation and was located in Alexandria, Virginia, ten Miles from Washington, D.C. It was first owned by owned by Dr. James Craik, a surgeon in the Continental Army and later became the home of Lord Fairfax's family. The plantation house was destroyed during the Civil War to make room for Fort Worth Literature: Froeble, Anne S.,The Civil War Diary of Anne S. Frobel: Of Wilton Hill in Virginia, 1992. McLean, VA.
