(New York, 1878-1956)
inscribed on base "Edith Barretto Parsons", marked "EGF 10," and "1980", posthumous cast authorized by Edith Gilman French, Tallix Foundry, with stamp, incised underside "#1," patinated bronze, 33 x 14-3/4 x 8-1/2 in.
Provenance: Private Collection, Charlotte, North Carolina
Note: There was a period in which Edith Parsons' fountains such as Turtle Baby were in great demand. The artist's family recast these and numbered them typically with Roman numerals. Records indicate that this fountain was cast in 1980.
This fountain appears to be plumbed to be a working fountain. It would need some adaptive plumbing to be attached to a pump. It is not tested as a result. Some of the fountain pipes are bent.
dark brown patina with spotting of verdigris corrosion, bent fountain tube, casting flaw on forehead
