likely made at Lewis Miles Stoneware Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, South Carolina, circa 1850's, possibly made by Dave Drake, runny tan and dark brown glaze, lopsided ovoid form, ten small circular punctates to shoulder, "crescent" impression to base edge, two applied lug handles, flared collared rim, 15-1/2 in. - Provenance: Collection of Dr. Joseph T. and Gaile E. glaze voids and anomalies as made, 10 in. restoration to rim, rim wear and glaze frit, one handle restored, 13 in. stabilized hairline from base to shoulder then splits off to 20-1/2 in. hairline around shoulder, two large kiln drips to shoulder, base edge chips and wear, 2 small chips to handle, 3/4 in. chip to restored handle, abrasions and scratches to glaze, clay body anomalies throughout, i in. plug repair to lower body of jar
